In November 1994 I decided to paint'the greatest artwork of all time'. This would be a painting that expressed the ultimate realisation; that the universe is infinite and eternal (so we would be surrounded by infinite other cosmoses). The image has a blue sun and a field, of knowledge, with words expressing my understanding. The words explain that Olbers paradox is dealt with by Gravitational shift, while the Cosmos's pull on the surrounding infinity would have itself accelerating apart (at that time scientists assumed the expansion of the cosmos would be decelerating). The painting was first exhibited in Jan 95 and other times since.
In the late 90's observations of supernovae showed that the visible universe/cosmos was indeed accelerating apart and more evidence has been gathering since to affirm that the universe may be infinite and we have neighbouring cosmoses.
This realisation will not only change our understanding of the nature of the universe but of the nature of reality and ourselves, so this painting will mark an event in the history of art.
