Hail Mary (Poems of Francis Jammes)
For the little boy who died near his mother.
While children play in the pit.
And the wounded bird who does not know how.
His wing suddenly s'ensanglante and down. By
thirst and hunger and delirium ardent
Hail Mary
For kids beaten by the drunkard who returns. By donkey
receiving kick in the stomach.
And the humiliation of the innocent punished. For the virgin
we sold undressed.
For the son whose mother has been insulted:
Hail Mary.
For the old woman, stumbling under too much weight.
exclaims: "My God! "For the poor whose arms.
could not rely on a human love.
Like Son on the cross of Simon of Cyrene.
For the horse fell under the truck behind it:
Hail Mary.
For the four horizons crucify the world.
For all those whose flesh is torn or succumbs.
For those without feet, for those without hands.
For the patient that we operate and moans.
And just by being among the assassins
Hail Mary. By
mother learning that her son is cured.
By recalling the bird the bird fell from the nest.
For the thirsty grass and collects the shower. By
kiss lost love restored. And the beggar
finding its currency:
Hail Mary.
For the donkey and the ox, by the shadow of the straw.
By pauper who is said to go away. By
nativities which have on their graves. What
bouquets of ice on the wings of a dove.
By virtue that struggle and that unsuccessful:
Hail Mary.
Lyrics: Francis Jammes / Melody: Georges Brassens.
