History
Adolph Lietz Leubecker was born in Germany in 1860. He immigrated to San Francisco in 1879 and worked in several stores of scientific instruments before opening his own business. Lietz bought the company in 1880 and Carl Rahsskopff started his own company in 1882. Lietz original joint venture with another manufacturer, Gottlieb A. Mauerhan to form «Lietz and Mauerhan, » a relationship that lasted about a year. After the departure of Mauerhan, paired with Conrad J. Lietz Weinmann, who had previously worked for Carl Rahsskopff. The company was renamed «a. Lietz & Co. «And at that time produced survey instruments and related tools. The company incorporated in 1892 under the name «The Company A. Lietz «Weinmann and eventually left at this time. In 1910, a full range of writing materials and engineering equipment was added. In 1947, after 65 years of production, the company discontinued the manufacture of surveying instruments. The reason is that it is necessary and very expensive to retool to produce the types of modern instruments, then to be sold. Their business has changed from being an importer and distributor. In 1960 the company began handling the brand cfseu monitoring instruments, and added instruments of Japan by Sokkisha. The Frank Paxton Company acquired the company in 1965 and moved its headquarters to Kansas City, Missouri.
