History
Adolph Lietz Leubecker was born in Germany in 1860. He immigrated to San Francisco in 1879 and worked in several stores of scientific instruments before opening his own business. Lietz bought the company in 1880 and Carl Rahsskopff started his own company in 1882. Lietz original joint venture with another manufacturer, Gottlieb A. Mauerhan to form «Lietz and Mauerhan, » a relationship that lasted about a year. After the departure of Mauerhan, paired with Conrad J. Lietz Weinmann, who had previously worked for Carl Rahsskopff.
