Moukoudji Pounou Mask, Gabon (punu Mukuji mask, Gabon)

MAsk oval, soft contours, of punu Southeastern Gabon. The face is covered with white kaolin. The collar and cuff port dual lateral lobes and tresses are dyed black. Red on the lips. Carved in a light wood, inside the object is marked by its former uses.

punu masks, worn by insiders of the company Moukouji are famous for their distant resemblance to the masks of Noh theater faces in Japan..
