Francois Lafon (1846 - c.1903)

"Venus leading love"

******************************* *************************************

Beautiful oil on panel

pupil of his father, Emile Lafon (1817-1886), painter who received numerous public commissions and Alexandre Cabanel (1823-1889). He exhibited at the Salon from 1875 allegories, mythological, religious and orientalist, nymphs and portraits of women.

His style is slender, graceful and often borrowing a dreamy nostalgia. His works are featured in several French museums including the Museum of Perigord in Perigueux, the birthplace of the family.

He is a member of the Societe Nationale des Beaux-Arts from 1890.

Like his father he received many official orders.
