student of François Joseph Bosio and Baron Gros, while as Antoine Louis Barye, Jean François Théodore Gechter became known from the Salon of 1833 by a group representing the Battle of Charles Martel and Abderrahman King of the Saracens. At the same romantic spirit he exhibited in 1834 a group having about a Fight at Aboukir which earned him a medal. At the Salon of 1835 he proposed a statue of the Madeleine meditating on the scriptures then he executed in marble for the church of La Madeleine. Following the large bas-relief of the Battle of Austerlitz to the Arc de Triomphe (1833-1836) he was named Chevalier of the Legion of Honor. He participated then to the fountains of the Place de la Concorde. Another prestigious order in 1840 he executed a statue of St. John Chrysostom under the colonnade of the Madeleine. His latest book is a marble statue of King Louis Philippe in his coronation robes, commissioned by the Ministry of the Interior November 19, 1839, statue intended for hall of the State Council at the palace of the Quai d'Orsay and then placed the House of Lords in the Luxembourg Palace. Despite significant

official orders, Gechter has built its reputation on achieving small groups of bronze features of popular taste in the July Monarchy. His sculptures have been several editions but it seems that Gechter has also opened his own studio cast. From 1841, it appears in the Business Directory as a bronze-caster and sculptor. It would have made himself and signed the necessary molds to cast sand. Then it seems it would only melt and organized the sale of its models by placing them in galleries in Paris, London, Berlin and Dresden.
