The Temptation of Saint Anthony

The painter was largely inspired by the Scriptures. He shows us the hermitage of Saint-Antoine destroyed by the monsters that now beset the Holy. Peach capital, with their hideous faces, Full Throttle. The Devil seems to triumph. Grünewald comes in a modern language, to convey a message of the intact medieval faith.
