Ankou is the terrible and mysterious figure in the legends of Brittany, which picks up the souls of the dead future. It is represented by a man in a cape and a black hat or a squellette but it is very rare. I stumbled by chance on a representation of it in the churchyard of the church of "The Martyr" (North Finistère), grinning statue on top of a giant clam. The inspiration came quickly and this is a pastel representing the same statue seems to say to the poor frightened Breton: "going off but I will find you." The decor (statue of Ankou and Calvary in the background) really exists.
