Lindisfarne Gospels

Copy of a binding-like page at the beginning of the Gospel of St. Matthew in the magnificent Lindisfarne Gospels originally written and illuminated at the end of the seventh century in north-east England.
The Celtic knotworks are composed of geometric shapes and zoomorphics. The small circles in the center of each part of the cross are supposed to represent the rivets that secure the plates engraved with some old bindings. Watercolor on white paper 180g
