Beautiful engraving or etching on copper Callot signed very well supported - Jacques Callot, born in Nancy in 1592 and died in the same city on 24 March 1635, is a designer and engraver lorrain, whose best known work today is a series of eighteen etchings entitled The misery of war, referring to the ravages of the Thirty Years War that took place then in Europe.

He is considered one of the masters of etching. His style is characterized by the sharpness of the line [n 4] and the depth of the ink, which can keep its perfect readability etchings, despite the frequent abundance of scenes and characters, on the surface often prints restricted.

It must Callot several innovations that enabled the full development of this art, in particular the use of «hard varnish. That Abraham Bosse who spread these innovations, publishing in 1645 the first treaty ever published on the engraving etchings, treated to be widely translated in Europe.

The signature is legible and written in the place, it is against or a model or a signed etching.
