Refugee camps were established on land leased by the state government to house some of the Tibetan refugees who came to India during the 1960s, following the Chinese invasion of Tibet Military. They consist of many small agricultural camps close to each other, and monasteries, convents and temples of the major Tibetan Buddhist traditions.
