A l’époque, l’entreprise s’appelait Swallow Sidecar Company. En 1945, les initiales ss devenant logiquement de très mauvais genre, il fallait en changer.
Cependant, dès 1937, William Lyons cherchait un emblème pour son entreprise. Il se rappela d’un ami à lui qui était mécanicien à la raf et qui ne tarissait pas d’éloges au sujet d’un moteur d’aviation au surnom de… Jaguar !
Le nom était tout trouvé, et le symbole allait demeurer…
