The Church of St. Sulpice, in the usual sense oriented west-east, is an imposing 120 meters in length, 57 meters wide, 30 meters high under the arch centrale5; it is after Notre Dame, the most large church of Paris.
The adventures and sprawl of its construction between the initial plans of Daniel Gittard dated 1660, the resumption of work by a pupil of Jules Hardouin-Mansart, Gilles-Marie Oppenord in 1719 until the solemn dedication of 1745 and the final elevation of the western front between 1732 and 1870 explain a patchwork style, a blend of architecture inspired by the Jesuit Gesu of Rome and a more traditional architecture, sometimes called, partly for this reason, Sulpician style.

C'est une église imposante. Mais, je n'avais jamais remarqué en si précis détails la chaire surmontée d'une belle Vierge à l'enfant.
