This is a nice looking transit or theodolite that dates from approx 1890 as evidenced by the serial # 35, --- which is found on the compass face. It is in overall very nice condition and has 98% or more of the brass/ bronzed finish on most of the instrument. The scope measures approx 8» long. The compass is functional and the needle on this example measures about 3 1/2». On the side it has a vertical half circle vernier which is 3 1/2» in Dia. All screws and motions move freely and as they should. The optics clear and clean. The base measures 2 3/4», and the instrument weighs approx 8 lbs. It is an ideal size for use or display. A nice piece, in a hard to find size.
