French Directoire clock in gilded and patinated bronze, representing the history of «Paul and Virginie», represented within an exotic framework between two palm trees. The marked movement of «Chantelot à Marseille» rests on a rectangular base decorated with a bas-relief of flowers and stylized leaves, with in the center a representation of «Paul and Virgine» in a boat facing the storm. A clock with a similar base is included in the book of Pierre Kjellberg, Encyclopédie de la Pendule Française, page 358.
