A wood and papier mache black lacquered dressing table with an oval mirror, all inlaid with mother of pearl, and hand-painted with flowers and gilded patterns. Come with its full set of pink opaline glass comprising in particular a large basin and an ewer.
The Second Empire has introduced two novelty, the comfortable chairs and furniture lacquer inlaid with mother of pearl.
Lacquered furniture and paper mache inlaid with mother of pearl, gold highlights and flower motifs are developed under the reign of Louis-Philippe. The specialists, Goudel, Osmont Mainfroy exhibit from 1834
The origins of the furniture is of course the Far East, but another orgine is closer, especially this technique of applying painting on papier mache, which comes from England then flooded Europe with its products. Illustrious examples, Lamartine's room, the furniture of Louis-Philippe in Neuilly, attest to the popularity in France of this style between 1840 and 1850.
