A pair of semi-circular mahogany veneered commodes with three drawers. They are surmounted by a three levels semi-circular top. Gilt bronze and Brass mounts.
This type of furniture refers to the Russian Jacob style inspirated by the French cabinet-maker Georges Jacob (1739-1814). This style appeared in the early 1790s until 1830. It is impossible to discover anything directly in common between the Russian Jacob style and the work of the French cabinet-maker. The use of the term Jacob thus seems to have been no more than a commercial ploy to evoke foreign qualities. The Russian Jacob style has enjoyed an immediate success and soon being produced throughout Russia and not just in St Petersburg and Moscow
