Charles Cumberworth (1811-1852) was admitted at the Beaux-Arts in 1829.

He exhibited from 1833 to 1848 in the Salon de Paris, showing mostly portrait-busts of women and children as well as allegorical statues of very classical composition. We owe him the statue of Queen Marie-Amélie and that of the Duc de Montpensier.

The ironmaster Daubrée, friend of the artist, would have realized the posthumous issue of Love for Oneself.
