About the artist: Luckner Lazard was born in Port-au-Prince in 1928. Lazard has worked at Art Center from 1945 to 1950, then studied in Paris and Mexico City. In 1956 he moved to New York City, where he lived and worked - with frequent visits to his homeland - until mid 1980. He has won numerous awards, have been exhibited worldwide and is represented in the most comprehensive collections of Haitian art. During his life, Lazard was one of the most popular - and best selling - Haitian artists. It became even more popular since his death.

His work is represented in the Museum of Haitian Art and can be seen constantly in all galleries Nader and other art galleries around the world and in many private and public collections. Listed in the Art of Haiti by Eleanor Ingalls Christensen, and many other books on Haitian art. He died in May 1998 after suffering a debilitating stroke.
