Moulded in a clay and enhanced with fine incisions, this statuette of a horseman wearing a military cape evokes the China that was torn apart during the Late Middle Ages. The country was plagued by invasions but recovered its unity in the North thanks to the Wei dynasty.

The squat but slim horse, caparisoned and wearing a mask, is the symbol of the new order that reigned in the 5th and 6th centuries.
