Folio (49 X 33 cm), red calico, the first course a large gilded iron representing the characters of Rabelais'Gargantua and Panurge above the monk on both sides of the insert booked under, above which in is figured a couple people in the Abbey of Thelema, the second course consisting of arms, a central oval, a lizard carrying a shield, surmounted coverest-c… , The back of the decorative friezes on the top and bottom frames a decorative motif in resuming the long silhouette of Panurge wrapped in a banner or reads the name of the author, not clipped

Very nice edition, looking for wood engraved illustrations by Gustave Dore: Portrait of Rabelais, 60 boards inset on chine applied to 658 images, headers and cul-de-lamp. Sumptuous
Definitive edition and first printing partial compositions of the artist on the 719 prints, only 98 were taken from Bry edition, 1854, which contained 104.
