This design utilises a combination of stone, wood and metal.
Boulder opal country, the Southwestern corner of Queensland, true light, big blue sky, eternal red dirt. Boulder opal is an ironstone in which opal is formed via water reacting, very slowly, with silica.
Renaissance stone master Palladio provided the technique, a process where rocks are hand sawn, ground, arranged, worked, polished and finished.
The table features a hand carved ancient Xanthorrhoea Australis (grass tree) base. Found only in Australia, this species is said to grow 30 centimetres in height every 100 years. Fashioned with spoke shaves, the base is in tonal harmony with the complex ironstone tabletop.
Tabletop: Boulder Opal Palladiana, Southwestern Queensland, Tertiary period (15 - 50 million years)
Table Base: Hand carved Xanthorrhoea Australis (grass tree) and powder coated steel.
