Individual vase incorporating sculpture, lapidary and metal work. Beneath the cleanliness and simplicity of visual finish is the design, requiring highly exacting techniques. Consequently, production is a complex and slow process.
This vase seeks to evoke, via form and media, a strong sense of the Australian continent.
Australian design, materials and craftsmanship demonstrate multi- dimensional inlays (solid stone into solid stone). The feature stone (Zebra stone) is worked into the host stone (Helidon Sandstone), a beautifully coloured fine grain sandstone from Queensland. The vase features a removable copper water vessel.
Sandstone (Pink) Helidon, Queensland. Triassic Period (200 - 245 million years). Zebra Stone, The Kimberly, Western Australia. Precambrian Period (600 million years).
