Carracci, Ludovico.
Prerequisite: It is learned that burning the seventeenth century (25. 5 X 39 cm square line), with a very clear letter from the editor Jacomo Rossi - photograph available on request, was made in return from this drawing, the letter tells us, "Jacomo de Rossi went Formis Rome p (i) ace all Insegna di Parigi, "as if the specialty of this editor was the Parisian productions ...? (We were unable to re-locate the Jacomo de Rossi).
This confirms that if the print was made from the drawing, the drawing on the other hand could never have been made from the burning - the connoisseurs know why!
Ludovico (Louis) (1555-1619), is cousin of the other Carracci (Agostino, Francesco, Annibale). They are definitely associated with a community-style imposed by their time. It also speaks often of the four Carracci as three.
State:
Thin paper, laid paper, watermarked unclear, however, where we see a mark close to [wht], but [whi] (under the hand holding the first possession). Without certainty, then. The former support (in the style of XVII-XVIII centuries, is also watermark, but unreadable.
Stuck on the left vertical line of the square.
Verso: lower right: without encroaching on the original design, light tap of character (DT), and on the support, two other stamps collectors. (Including nfll).
Front: lower left, under the signature of Carracci, stamp collector (DT).
Attribution: You would think the signing as "apocryphal," that is to say, however, added ... but based in fact, we have a good "Lud: Caracci." This signature, calligraphy still XVI-XVII, coincides perfectly with the consideration of the drawing published by Giacomo de Rossi, and assigning it to Louis (Ludovico) Carracci (Carracci) (lvd. Caracci. Invenit) ..
