Porcelain Box With Underglaze Blue Decoration
Ming Dynasty, Jiajing Mark & Period 1522-1566 ad.
Height: 15 cm, Diameter: 29 cm

Fine Ming dynasty porcelain box with underglaze blue decoration and six character mark in two columns. Jiajing mark and period. The painted decoration is in the typical Jiajing bright purplish shade. Ceramic boxes were produced in rectangular, square, round, or polygonal shapes, and were intended to hold seal-ink, cosmetics, or candies. Such boxes increased in size during the Jiajing period; some examples as large as 38cm in diameter have been found. Please note photo colour might deviate slightly in comparison to the original artefact.
