Exploring mediuns learning towards encaustic
I have been painting for the past 2 years in oil, I felt I wanted to expand on my contemporary art to change things up. My first encaustic painting since art school.
The feeling of exploration as the ancients did in early Egypt, honoring the deceased person as an eternal being was in encaustic. The ancient Greeks also 3000 years ago, is is as a popular medium with Artists today. Encaustic, creates a pleasing depth in each painting with different layers. You can get a cloudy matte effect that is mysterious as an awe of excitement to the work. Texture can be created, it becomes solid, allowing you to cut, carve, stamp, or even sculpt it adding more depth and expression. You enjoy working fast, it takes seconds to set. Adding a new heat gun to my Artist tools, Blending with heat makes encaustic painting is truly unique. You can control the vivid and variations of colour. The medium can be used alone for its transparency or adhesive qualities or used pigmented. Pigments may be added to the medium, or purchased colored with traditional artist pigments. The medium is melted and applied with a brush or any tool the artist wishes to create from. Each layer is then reheated to fuse it to the previous layer. More advanced applications with resins that are rare and expensive, have permanent results is another area of exploration. There is a lot of variety in techniques. Have fun and enjoy your experimentation of exploration with encaustic medium.
