Colette Gourvitch has been a photographer for more than thirty years.
She explores the concept of light and it's relationship with the traditional silver matter, the concept of space, - scrutiny and contemplation, play on dimensions in which the vast is reduced in order to better capture the attention and better render the form.
She also examines the concept of time. The time needed for a creative piece to evolve, the time required to elaborate a work and take it further along its poetic sense whereupon the instant of time used to capture the image is modified allowing the spectator the time needed to relate to the image.
Her imagination takes precedence over reality and she strives to transcend it in order to create new stories and new propositions.
After having worked for six years on the "Série des 32"- the Series of 32 -where she treated : life, death, love, eroticism, fears, in a word the human condition, she turned her creative work to Nature and the Countryside, where she constantly experiments and re-interprets them.
Facinated by the 19th century photographic processes, Colette Gourvitch is no stranger to precision and has an intense interest in the sophistication of the grey colour scale which then enhances her work in black and white.
However, her experience with colour Polaroid has allowed her to work with colour at a primary level where the colour spectrum is de-sophisticated.
Colette Gourvitch sells her work directly from her Studio, and also teaches students the art of printing.
Her limited edition prints are dated and signed and each has a certificate of authenticity.
