ART COLLECTING IS THE THEME OF ART AMSTERDAM 2008
'This year’s Art Amsterdam will cater to art collectors more than ever before,’ explains Anneke Oele, director of Art Amsterdam. ‘At the central exhibition, called ‘Het Collectiegebouw’, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen will reveal its plans for a new depository for storing and displaying art belonging to private collectors and others. There will also be a special symposium during Art Amsterdam on the relationship between museums and private and corporate collections. Moreover, some 50 international art collectors are being invited to pay a special VIP visit to Art Amsterdam, and sixty young prospective art collectors aged between 17 and 22 can take part in the Day for Beginner Art Collectors. They will be advised by renowned collectors, who will accompany them for an entire day. This is how we’re responding to the growing interest shown in collecting contemporary art.’
Art lovers and collectors meet the cream of the Dutch art gallery world at Art Amsterdam. In addition, a quarter of the 125 galleries are from abroad (Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Korea and the United Kingdom). Noteworthy newcomers include Annette de Keyser from Antwerp, Gallery Adler from Frankfurt and Gallery Polaris and g-module from Paris. Special features of the exhibition will be a solo presentation of the work of Klaas Gubbels and the striking ‘Landmines’ exhibition of Maisenbacher Art Gallery of Berlin. The young artist judged by an expert jury to be the most promising at the exhibition will receive the Thieme Art Award. There will also be 18 solo presentations, talk shows and three free guided tours of the show daily.
