The Fates (from the Romans and the Fates in Greek) were three sisters, Clotho, Lachesis and Atropos (respectively Nona, Decima and Morta in Latin, although their Greek names seem more used) daughters of Nyx (Night) or Erebus, or of Jupiter and Themis, or, as some poets, daughters of Necessity and Fate. They performed their duties when the fatal origin of beings and things are as old as the Night, the Earth and Heaven. They ensure not only the fate of mortals, but the movement of celestial spheres, and world harmony. Immutable in their designs, they keep this thread mysterious symbol of the lifetime, and nothing can weaken or prevent them from cutting into the frame. Clotho - Nona or the Romans - so named from a Greek word meaning "spinning", appears to be the less old, if not the youngest of the Fates. It's she who holds the thread of human destinies. It represents wearing a long dress of various colors and holding a distaff, which descends from heaven to earth ..
