Kasbah Oudayas was built originally in the 12th century to overlook the mouth of Bouregreg, the river from Rabat. It served as a basis for starting the Moroccan armed conquest of Andalusia, headed by the Almohad dynasty, including the Sultans Abdelmoumen and Yacoub El Mansour. The great main gate of the Kasbah dates from this period. The Kasbah was probably built on an ancient Roman site, the Ksar of Benitargas. Kasbah continue to be the center of Rabat military and civilian, including when it begins to accommodate the Andalusians expelled from Spain (Moricos) in the sixteenth and especially seventeenth century ..
