Original watercolor - Saint-Tropez. I longed to paint the tawny color of sunset over the port of Saint Tropez, and especially the opposition of tones in the reflection of water: contrasts between the warm colors of the houses lining the harbor, and cool colors the sky reflected in water. Saint-Tropez plays a major role in the history of Modern Art. Paul Signac discovered this place bathed in light and encourages painters such as Matisse, Bonnard and Marquet coming to St. Tropez. Here Pointillism and Fauvism emerge. This development is fully documented at the Museum of the Annunciation. Saint-Tropez remains a magnet for future generations. Bernard Buffet, David Hockney, Donald Sultan lived and worked in St. Tropez. Today, Stefan Szczesny has taken up residence in Saint-Tropez and works in the continuity of this tradition.
