Standing Virgin and Child, to the donor. 1477.. Wolfgang (Aurifaber) Historien d'art, Archéologue; Chercheur Free-L.
Theme: Virgin and Child, the donor: Ludivicus (Abbas), (Louis, Abbot ad 1477).
Standing Virgin and Child seated is invoked by a «donor» in the scroll reads the prayer «Jesu verbum patris sum serva servuos kills matris» (Jesus, speaking of the supreme father, serve the servants of your mother).
The ostensible author signed: «Wolfgangus aurifaber» where «aurifaber» is not necessarily the name but rather the state: goldsmith. Nb: the Gothic and even in the seventeenth century, the recorders are often from families of goldsmiths.
Is listed by Wolfgang A. Bartsch (The Painter and engraver, vol. X, 16, No. 73). Wolfgang a Hamer is reported in the late fifteenth to Nuremberg by Arthur M. Hind (an introduction to a history of woodcut).

Condition: very very good for its time. Some yellowing.

Comments: The piece is exceptional not only by its state of preservation, but also because it is clearly signed and dated. Moreover, we know the name and function of «donor». It included a consideration of this piece to make it even more exceptional, more ink than the previous one but slightly yellowed, it would be a shame to separate the positive print, even if that consideration, then inked better, must be the negative d another draw.
All this justifies the price. For
Back: annotations in pencil. Two brands of collectors.
