Hornung-Jensen went through his student relationship to, among other things, Fritz Thaulow and Léon Bonnat familiar with the open-air study and the naturalistic painting's craftsmanship, and his versatile technical education, benefited him from a wide range of motifs: portraits, genre motifs and landscapes typical of the nature studies of the Animal Sea Mills and the older Charlottenburg paintings solidity. Among these, especially the pictures from Dyrehaven and Peter Lieps Hus claims that they are in a moody building and a sure distribution of light and shadow.
