This painting is part of a five-painting series of Great White Egrets. Although my subject matter generally involves the sea and classic sailboats, I have wanted to paint these elegant large birds for a long time. These birds are indigenous to southern Florida and many areas in Africa and are a delight to see in the wild. In the United States, they may be seen in abundance in the Everglades of Florida. The best time of the year to see these amazing birds is during mating season when the male puts on a fabulous display of plumage and mating dances.
I have finally completed the series and will now return to the easel with paintings of classic sailing regattas and coastal vistas. It has been a lot of fun painting these wonderful birds but they have been a real challenge as they are highly detailed and the plumage is extremely complicated to paint.
