Ambition -58 Washington Street-. Kohki Hiramatsu Kohki Hiramatsu
When I first saw the graffiti and leaflets on the road sign at Brooklyn, the image was overlapped on the Manhattan bridge in the backside. Therefore, I drew two things together on a piece of paper. This awareness was elicited from the experience in ib history course when I researched the influence of Zoning Law in 1916 on the Art-Deco architecture. On the research, I read a book called “Delirious New York” by Rem Koolhaas. I learned why the bridge was span on the east river and how the city called New York has developed. Then, I began to imagine what kind of emotion they felt during the construction of such a huge object. I thought there must be strong ambitions an passions. For this experience in research, the claims and appeals to the public on the road sign has potentially overlapped to the historical context behind the bridge. In the drawing, I used a diagonal composition for appealing the irrepressible inner feeling that people possess.
