Johnny hallyday. Wasim Al Janati Loisir

Johnny Hallyday, whose real name is Jean-Philippe Smet, born June 15.1943 in the 9th arrondissement of Paris and died December 5.2017 in Marnes-la-Coquette (Hauts-de-Seine), is a singer, composer and actor French.

During his 57-year career, he has established himself as one of the most famous French singers and one of the most prominent personalities in the French media landscape.

If he is not the first to sing rock in France, he is, from 1960, the first to popularize rock'n'roll in France. The different musical streams he's playing - rock'n'roll, pop, rhythm and blues, soul, psychedelic rock - all come from the blues. Although he plays many variety songs, ballads and sometimes country, rock remains his main reference.

His longevity at the forefront of the artistic scene and his vocal and scenic performances attract him the recognition of his peers and the public. In total, he made 80 albums, including 51 studio albums. He has 6 diamond records, 40 gold records, 22 platinum records and 10 Victoires de la musique. Outside French-speaking countries, although he failed to win a lasting victory despite several successful tours, particularly in South America, his reputation as a stage man crossed the borders. It thus makes 184 tours and gives more than 3.250 concerts, totaling 29 million spectators, with services with big budgets and scenic effects.

While suffering from lung cancer, he made his last tour in June and July 2017, alongside his friends Jacques Dutronc and Eddy Mitchell, with whom he formed the trio of Vieilles Canailles. His death, which occurred a few months later as a result of his illness, gave rise to an important popular tribute. At the time of his death, sales of his records amounted to 110 million copies.
