Andromeda 3 on black is a digitally manipulated photograph of a seated, tattooed young female. This is a recent version of the story of Andromeda as painted by Titian and Rubens, presented as a puzzling challenge to the viewer. Andromeda was claimed to be more beautiful than any goddess so Hera ordered her stripped & chained to a rock as a sacrifice to Poseidon. Is that her skin or are those tattoos? And why is she looking so detached as she sits? Is this a photograph or a construction? She is dramatic and seductive but there is tension holding the viewer back. And why is she looking away? This is a puzzle that the viewer feels has seen it before somewhere… This andromeda version displays quieter, more subtle tattoos than other versions. Reproductions are available here at different sizes and surfaces. Watermark shows online here only
