Adelaine Must Dream
I was inspired to paint this piece when I saw a young girl near my home looking out at the ocean with the look of dreamy wonder, promise in her eyes. So, this story of wonder which a young woman might experience in light of the unknown came as the theme for this painting. “On the opposite side of a lake, Adelaine thinks on what could be the outcome to venture even near the water's edge, the possibilities, the frights. Can the urge of adventure silence the rise of fear she envisions? Adelaine must dream, or else she never dares… ” I used gouache as the medium, I love working with Turner Gouache, for me it impersonates almost to a science the artistry of the old tempera renditions that truly inspire.
