Rainer Maria Rilke, writer and poet, wrote the Sonnets to Orpheus in February 1922 when he finished, in a state of grace, the Elegies of Duino. Rilke's latest work, an oath of his career as a poet, the Sonnets à Orphée are dedicated to the young expressionist dancer Wera Ouckama Knoop.
