The watercolor shows the Polar Aurora, a phenomenon in the form of luminescence that appears in the night sky, generally in polar areas. In the southern hemisphere it is known as the aurora australis and in the northern hemisphere as the aurora borealis.
The aurora borealis occurs when charged particles from the Sun collide with Earth's atmosphere and are directed toward the poles by our magnetic field.
