Trajectory of an Ordinary Life. Barrie Dale Wildhaven

This is a high-magnification image of a sepal of hydrangea. It was taken in natural light, with no manipulation. I work hand-held to give complete freedom of expression.

At high magnification subject matter becomes unrecognisable. I scan, looking for images that have'meaning'. I select on the basis of'meaning'rather than'beauty'because'beauty'is subjective.

I try to follow Turner, Monet and Cézanne in being honest about Nature; but I want to draw on the ideas of Ernst, Magritte and Miró in finding interest in chance configurations.

The'meaning'I had immediately for this image was that we start off with high hopes (on the left). We suffer a degree of disappointment; but in the end we come to terms with the fact that very few plans come to perfect fruition, and we end up with contented acceptance.
