Kangae is the first painting in my Japan in Gold series. It is the portrait of a beautiful geisha in her traditional kimono which I filled with gold leaf. Her traditional look meets with the background wall with graffiti which combines modernity to ancient traditions, just like everything in Japan, which is a mix of these two aspects.
