Neofigurative in Oil. Luigi Stornaiolo Pimentel Brenda Arauz +593982062440

Luigi Stornaiolo Pimentel was born in Quito on June 9.1956. Son of Bruno Stornaiolo Miranda (Naples, Italy) clinical psychologist and writer of a novel called Requiem for a Dinosaur, and short stories, and Ángela Pimentel Franco (Guayaquil, Ecuador), He is considered one of the most prominent contemporary painters in Ecuador and Latin America.

During his career, Stornaiolo has received several awards, including the Eugenio Espejo National Award 2011 Edition. He has repeatedly represented Ecuador at the Cuenca, Sao Paulo, Trujillo and Venice International Biennials. His works have been and are permanently exhibited in national and international museums and galleries.

At the Central University of Ecuador, Stornaiolo studied the Faculty of Architecture for three years, leaving it to dedicate himself to painting and the study of the great world Masters of pictorial art. He did it as an autodidact, touring the largest European museums and making replicas of various works by Rembrandt, Titian, Velásquez and Raphael.

Despite being right-handed from birth, Stornaiolo currently paints only with his left hand, having been paralyzed on his right side. His diagnosis, according to some doctors, is atrophic lateral sclerosis, others have diagnosed him with nerve damage, and there were those who underwent various types of treatment on him.

As the paralysis has been a long process, Master trained his left hand
In order not to abandon painting. Since 2008 he paints only with his left hand. According to Stornaiolo, «time became chewing gum» when referring to the decrease in his pictorial production due to his paralysis, since everything with half a body takes more time. Despite the records and catalogs of his works, the Master says he does not know the number of paintings made. At 67 years of age, his production is vast. Thanks to his will to move on, his workshop continues to be enriched with new works.

As the Argentine artist Luis Felipe Noe, considered one of the greatest representatives of Plastic Arts in Latin America, wrote, Stornaiolo's abstract-expressionist work is autobiographical. With its features, technique, color, and characters, it represents his relationship with his city, Quito, and with his internal world, but it transcends its place, becoming a representative work of the Latin American middle class.

In 1980 he had his first art exhibition at the gallery «Club de Arte», where he presented his work entitled «Ironic drawings within a lucid and almost photographic realism in its details».

He has exhibited his artwork in Peru, Brazil, Canada, Australia, Mexico, Belgium, Puerto Rico, Miami, New York, and Venezuela.
