Why was it named «Eldorado»? The name was proposed to commemorate the «Golden Anniversary of Cadillac. » And with that name a very special demo car manufactured in 1952 was baptized. It was the result of an internal contest, won by Mary-Ann Marini, who was a secretary in the marketing department of the Cadillac Division. Regardless of who chose the name, it comes from the Spanish words “El Dorado”, which in English would be “the gilded one” or “the golden one”. The name was originally given to a legendary South American indigenous cacique, who according to legend, in occasional ceremonies, his subjects sprinkled him with gold and then submerged himself in a lake from which he emerged clean and pure. (Something similar to the story of the Cacique de Guatavita, not far from Bogotá).
