The passion of Art

Léo Posted: june 20, 2012 / Modified: june 20, 2012
The passion of Art As a child, I spend long hours with my grandfather, artist, drawing, discussing, color, drawing, his encounters, painters he admires and that I will enjoy my turn as Braque, Picasso, and many others.
At school, my art teacher summoned my mother, she wants me to do an artistic career, I said that «fiber». Although the idea flatters my parents, they do not think an artist is something serious enough, I'm fourteen and I have no idea of job I want to do later.

I will eventually studied mathematics and will become a teacher. I feel the same fascination for mathematics very abstract things, like infinity, spaces, closed, open in as I do in painting. So I will never understand those who oppose mathematics and painting. Though, I feel close to Kandinsky and his studies of the shapes, and colors.
I continue along with my teaching job to «scribble» a bit. I write children's stories for wich I do the illustrations in India ink and watercolor.

But it was not until 2003 that the painting becomes a separate activity. I am pregnant and my pregnancy requires me to sit, I buy the acrylic paint, brushes and my first canvas. From there, the virus finally gains my soul. I then, devote myself to my art. I take lessons with a teacher from Vernon, William Lambert, who will guide me in my artistic growth while always respecting my choices and my personality. He is a very cultured and opens up new horizons, though he will forever be my «Master».

In 2009, some of my work is published in the U. S, in a contemporary art book. The painting has become my only job now. It is for me a reborn. The paint sticks to me and my body, my mind, claim for brushes as soon as I stop painting for too long. I feel like Chagall and his self-portrait, I feel like the brushes are growing from my own fingers.

I am not very interesting in realistic painting (for my self but I can admire some of them of course). I prefer to put my dreams on the canvas, my inner world, or reality, as I see it, and feel it. Country girl, I'm fascinated by big cities like London or New York, the recurring themes in my paintings. But the abstract, as well as scenes from everyday life inspire me too.

My only fear is not having time to paint everything I have to paint, to discover and share. But the key is before me: build a better life, a life of soothing colors and shapes, or invigorating. Painting is my deep desire of life. If I can give this desire of life to some people through my paintings, my work has found its “raison d'être”.
