Art, that's life!

Evelyne Patricia Lokrou Posted: april 1, 2014 / Modified: april 1, 2014
Art, that's life!
I remember being a little girl in France and Côte d'Ivoire, I already loved to draw. I especially liked the colors and shapes. Drawing was my preferred term, I do not even know how to read and write. As a teenager, I had fun, as is often said one of my sisters, to draw women I dressed my own creations : in fact, this was a mixture of colors, the search for beauty. I was not aware of the interest I had for drawing. I expressed myself, that's all !
Then I came to Canada to study at university. I had just finished a program and I had to choose another to finish my degree. I do not really know what to do and guide admissions consultant, I came across the program of visual arts (the minor was offered). I then remembered that I had little interest in the arts and painting and drawing in particular.
I had much to learn, as I will point my teacher, Mr. Peter Krauss, I naturally he will tell me later, naive me, art as a gift, I guess, I'm not so sure (laughs). But before I sign up, I said : «When you were a kid, you wanted to become a doctor, like your father, but you never had the courage even to try your luck, when the time came, seventeen years after the end, then, this time at least try, even if you risk to deceive you, in the end »
I entered the program with the idea that I will do my best and more. I would learn what it takes. I am immersed in books, education, knowledge of my teachers… But I use a lot more naive and abstract art in my paintings : a combination of both sometimes.
That is why even today, my paintings are attempts, tests, … I am still learning and I love it ! The colors are a real treat for me and I'm very sensitive ! I prefer acrylic, paint dries faster, it's true, but I think it offers more possibilities. I like museums, there are so many works, styles and artists, I also like books on art, you must be curious : this is how we learn !
I have since discovered that the painting, drawing, like photography, reading and writing are true passions and I can not do without these treasures ! They are Life!
I hope you like my paintings !
Thank you !
