My short story

Fineartmassey.com Posted: january 26, 2015 / Modified: january 28, 2015
My short story
A career that began in 1959. After two years of assisting
Zoltan Glass, one of the most influential photographers of
The middle twentieth century in London, who became my
Mentor and friend. He virtually introduced the‘Strobe’ effect (people and objects frozen, leaping in the air, and sequence
Action photography), with the development of studio flash
Lighting by David Cecil of Strobe lighting Ltd. London.
Glass was among the first to experiment with colour
Solarisation and other techniques, long before Warhol!
Colin Bryan, of Artist Partners Ltd. , (The premier London artist/photographer agent of the day)
Became my agent, who quickly promoted my work
Amongst the top art directors, writers, designers
And architects, who trusted me to produce faithful interpretations
Of their ideas, which, sometimes, could be reconsidered over lunch, when the tablecloth became a layout pad! I unconsciously
Developed a signature style of work, as did other photographers, which was recognized by the creatives of the day.
I have known rejection, and a lot of smiling, satisfied clients!
A roller coaster ride indeed and I enjoyed every minute of it!
I still get an adrenalin rush when the beginnings of an idea
‘Pops’ into my head and the production of the photograph
Comes to fruition.
During my exploits I had great support from freelance ‘props’ girls, hairdressers, make-up artists, set builders, studio assistants and, especially, my permanent staff who were paramount in the daily
Running of the studio. With a special thank you to a special person, Louise, my wife and mother of our three sons, Adam, Mark and Jason.
What a privilege!
Am I passionate about making photographs? … You bet!
