My Plein Air trip - a little report.

My Plein Air trip - a little report.
I am back from a very enjoyable and productive, full of impressions and positive emotions, art trip in the ancient city of Pskov in the North-West of Russia.

The trip was supposed to be a series of free plein air sessions in a company of a few artists, and I had anticipated it to be very positive, but the reality exceeded all expectations!

I must say that Pskov is basically a historical museum under the open air. Every inch of the city has many centuries of history. It has a fortress, many churches and other very interesting monuments that in combination with amazing nature make an irresistible effect on every person, and especially when a said person is an artist.

The first mention of the city in manuscripts is dated by 903, and it's much older than Moscow. For many centuries it was a very wealthy Hanseatic city, trading with those in Germany, Poland, Baltic states, etc. Many had tried to conquer that fortress, but not many succeeded!

We painted at least a couple of works per day, and I am going to post some of them here, and perhaps a video with my photo-impressions. For me, it was a very refreshing experience as I have not painted live from nature too many times, especially architecture. Usually, I take photos and paint in the studio, but here I had to do my best to make a sketch and paint it within an hour or two! And I have to say that I absolutely loved it! I painted with watercolors and with acrylics. And, of course, now I am going to use every opportunity to paint «live».

Also, my advice to those of you who decide to travel to Russia to paint or just to see around as a tourist, please, do not restrict yourself only to Moscow and St. Petersburg. There are more authentic, interesting places where you will find so much to admire!
